Apocalyptic (Water) Cycle is on the subject of environmentalism. During creation, a fire broke out near town and a big plume of smoke seemed to mirror the devastation of the water cycle hidden in the imagery of this painting. Included, the outline of Lake Mead, the Colorado River, horses, phoenix, a skull, and mountains. The silver leaf used is to reflect the good and bad cycles of life. Colorado’s watershed has largely been impacted by climate change and continues to affect the lower states of the Colorado River. This piece also reflects the nature of the modern news cycle addicted to giving the consumers the whiplash from hope to despair.
